COASTAL K9 GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE
of SAN DIEGO

We rescued Zack this summer along with his brother Cody 💙Over the past several weeks, Zack has been living with a wonderful foster family and he’s been an absolute sweetheart! 🐾 Below is what his foster mom shared about this handsome boy:

"Overall, Zack has been an easy foster and a very good boy. There've been no accidents or serious mischief. As you know, he has a very sweet temperament. He’s easy-going, but still very alert. He will make a great watch dog. He’s an early riser, ready to go as soon as I’m up. Now that we have a routine, he politely waits for me to get ready before we head out.

He walks well on a leash, loves his walks, and is always willing to go. He has been non-reactive to other dogs, big and small. If anything, he appears to want to play. He even politely watched as two horses walked passed one day. His prey drive has been triggered by rabbits, chickens, and cats. The only barking / leash reactivity has been with coyotes.

- He’s very friendly and happy to meet new people and give them kisses.

- He’s great in the car, remains calm, and sits or lies down.

- He is polite around his food bowl at meal times.

- He’s doesn’t mind getting brushed and is cooperative.

- He's happy hanging out - indoors or outside. Before his hernia surgery, he seemed to prefer being outside and exhibited no destructive behaviors. There was also no excessive barking.

- He’s shown little interest in games of fetch but he will play a little soccer and kick around larger balls.

- His mischief in the house has been mild… taking shoes to his bed or eating tissues from the bathroom waste bin.

- He enjoys emptying a toy basket, one toy at a time. He just carries them around or takes them to bed. He likes chewing on hard toys like antlers & Nyla bones. He hasn’t chewed or damaged any of the softer toys.

- He is mouthy… gentle and soft, but still overly mouthy.

- He needs work on some basic training. He will recall and sit. He has learned - place, off, wait, and break (release). We’ll work on improving recall and down. He’s learning boundaries, like being respectful around people eating.

- He responds best when asked for cooperation."
