Shiloh is as innocent as they come. He was just over four months when he got picked up as a stray and taken to the shelter. Shiloh didn't know what life had in store for him. There were a lot of things he didn't know. He didn't know that in the shelter, his days were numbered. He didn't know that he had already been taken off of the good list, that his time was up. He didn't know how close he was to being led into a cold sterile room that he would never walk out of. Shiloh didn't know that he was just a number in a big, crowded place full of other numbers, dogs that had lost their way, lost their families, and now faced losing their lives. He didn't know either, that Coastal K9 had gotten a call to help and that help was on the way and that soon he would be safe.
When we welcomed Shiloh into the Coastal K9 German Shepherd Rescue family, he had already picked himself up from the sad times, dusted himself off, and he was ready to go. Shiloh's innocence had kept any memories of the bad times away. There was only room in his little puppy mind and heart for the joys that today could bring. Lucky for Shiloh, there was a foster family waiting to take him into their home, one with another dog that could teach him the ropes and be a big sister and playmate for him, even teach him some puppy manners along the way.
He has been with us for a few months now, and he is blossoming in his foster home. The only thing that is growing faster than his body is his personality and his love for life. From day one, Shiloh came in the door ready to give everyone a kiss. They just needed to watch out for the little tinkle coming from the other end as he couldn't contain his excitement. He couldn't wait to run up to any dog that came into his foster home to play with him. His introduction was one of his own, "Hi Friend. I'm Shiloh. Can I kiss you? Can I play with you? Oops, you don't like me in your face? Okay, but can you play with me?" To this day, Shiloh has not met a person or dog that he doesn't love, love, love. He has mastered the art of giving kisses without the tinkling, though, everyone will be happy to know.
His foster mom and dad are even teaching him that it's safe to go out for a walk on a leash into the big world. At first it was scary and he would just freeze, but he watched his doggie pals who walked with him and saw what they did. Cars were very scary for him, but he is learning that they mean him no harm. What other things has Shiloh learned? Go potty in the yard, not in the house, check. Don't chew on your blanket, almost check. Being in your crate at bedtime is cozy and warm, a safe place to be, check. Mom and dad will make sure you get your next meal. You don't need to try to climb on the table yourself, check. Car rides are fun, double check. Oh, and if you like to sit on the back of the couch, make sure you plan your landing in case you fall, almost check.
Playdates are even more fun, and Shiloh gets playdates with doggy friends who come to visit on a regular basis. He can't contain himself when they walk into his yards. There goes his Shiloh introduction again and then the sprint is on as he takes turns chasing and being chased, and then wrestling, and finally lying down in the grass with his friends just enjoying their company.
Like any puppy, Shiloh is growing more each day, sometimes overnight. The only thing growing faster than his body is his heart. He is ready to give that heart to a forever family if they would just come along.
There are still some things Shiloh doesn't know. He doesn't know that he has grown so much that he doesn't fit in laps anymore. In fact, he thinks he still fits perfectly. He doesn't know that he doesn't fit the standard profile of a GSD. He doesn't know that the person who looked at his picture and fell in love with the description of his personality, decided that they really wanted a German Shepherd with ears that stood up. Who knew that floppy ears could be anything but cute? Shiloh would like for someone to take a moment to get to know him for who he is, the puppy who loves everyone, the puppy who needs a family to continue to grow up with.
Shiloh needs a family with someone at home most of the time. After all, puppies do not do well alone. He would love to have another dog in the home to play with and keep him company, but if there isn't one in the home, he is happy to invite friends over for playdates so his family can watch him romp and play. While Shiloh is a bit much for small children, we think he would love to have his own team of older kids in his forever family, kids that like dogs, kids that like wet sloppy kisses and tossing the ball for him and letting him lay on them while they watch TV.
If you are interested in meeting this dog, please fill out our online application first. Contact us via email at info@coastalK9gsr.org. The minimum adoption donation ranges from $300 to $400. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
