COASTAL K9 GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE
of SAN DIEGO

Hello Everyone,

Murphy is a recent rescue and was able to spend some time in a foster home. We have the benefit of learning what Murphy is like in a home environment. Below is a report from his foster dad.

Murphy is the kind of dog who walks into a new home and settles in like he’s always belonged. Confident, observant, and incredibly smart, he takes everything in, quickly figuring out routines, people, and where he fits in the pack. He’s what we like to call an “observer-strategist," always watching, always learning.

In the home, Murphy is an easy companion. He is fully house trained, has excellent manners, and respects boundaries like baby gates. He’s quiet overall, only speaking up when something truly catches his attention. Whether he’s lounging after a quick burst of zoomies or calmly riding in the car with his head out the window, Murphy brings a steady, grounded presence.

Murphy is also very food motivated (which makes training easier!), but it does mean keeping counters and trash secure. He knows the rules, he may test them occasionally, but he responds well to clear, consistent guidance.

Because of his intelligence and confidence, Murphy will thrive with an experienced, structured handler who can provide leadership and consistency. He’s not a dog for a “soft” approach. He’s happiest when expectations are clear and consistent.

Murphy enjoys being around people, but he can become a little too attached at times and may try to guard his person, especially around other dogs. With the right guidance, structure, and continued training, this is very manageable, but it’s important that his future home understands and is prepared to work through it.

He has done well being left alone for short periods and settles nicely, especially with another dog present. He walks well on leash, is curious but polite in public, and overall is a very balanced dog with a solid foundation.

Murphy is a special dog for the right home. Loyal, intelligent, and full of personality. He will do best with an experienced owner who appreciates a smart dog and is ready to give him the structure he needs to truly shine.

As with all dogs, compatibility depends on the individual dogs and the chemistry between them.

If you’re looking for a dog who is as sharp as he is handsome, and you’re ready to provide strong, consistent leadership, Murphy just might be your guy.

If you are interested in meeting this dog, please fill out our online application first. Contact us via email at info@coastalK9gsr.org. The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
