COASTAL K9 GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE
of SAN DIEGO

Gunnar was rescued by Coastal in 2015 and spent the following decade with his adoptive family. Unfortunately, due to changes in their circumstances, they could no longer keep Gunnar, now a senior dog. We welcomed him back with open arms, promising to find him a new, loving home where he could enjoy the next chapter of his life.

Initially, Gunnar was understandably anxious about leaving the only family he had ever known. Determined to bring him a sense of stability, we placed him in a foster home. Today, Gunnar is like a new dog—he settled in almost immediately and found peace and comfort in his new environment and routine. He shared a little about his new world.

“My foster mom calls me Guns, Gunnie, and Funner with Gunner. I am a good house guest and an easy keeper. I can be home alone with the dog door open for the work day and am overjoyed when you come home. I do well on walks. Our typical walk is a mile, but sometimes, I get to go on three-mile hikes. I do fine with both. I am a fast walker and don't take time to smell the roses, so a power walk is up my alley. I am at the end of the leash, but I don't pull. I have been taken on walks in parks and ignore other dogs and people. If you have to skip a walk, don't worry I am happy to have you home and be by your side. I do well when company comes over, although I may stay behind you until I feel comfortable going over on my own. Although I don't hurt them, kids are scary for me, and I keep my distance."

If you are interested in meeting this dog, please fill out our online application first. Contact us via email at info@coastalK9gsr.org. The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
