Hello Everyone,
We recently welcomed Cleo back to our Coastal K9 pack. Below are comments about Cleo from her former owner. As we learn more about Cleo we will update her information and add additional pictures.
“Cleo is a beautiful 4-5 year old German Shepherd mix with a gentle heart who is looking for a patient, calm, and loving forever home. She has spent much of her life in and out of shelters, and we rescued her a year and a half ago hoping to give her that forever home ourselves. During her time with us, she has made tremendous progress and grown into a deeply affectionate and loyal companion.
When Cleo first came to us, she was extremely shy and uncertain. With time, consistency, and the help of a trainer, she learned to trust. Today, she happily seeks affection from people, loves being close to her humans, and would gladly spend her days curled up beside you on the couch or sleeping nearby at night. She truly wants to be wherever her people are.
Cleo thrives with calm, patient guidance. She can still become nervous in certain situations, especially indoors when someone walks directly toward her. However, when approached gently and calmly, she is more relaxed.
One unique thing about Cleo is that she struggles with some surface changes, particularly metal sewer grates or unusual surfaces on sidewalks. She is otherwise comfortable with most outdoor environments, including parks, beaches, sidewalks, stairs, and different outdoor settings. A patient owner who understands her sensitivity and can guide her calmly through new experiences would help her continue to build confidence.
Cleo loves other dogs and enjoys playing off leash. She has done well with both small and medium sized dogs in our family. She is naturally a herding breed and can sometimes try to herd smaller dogs during play, so thoughtful introductions and supervision are important.
Her biggest challenge is leash reactivity around other dogs, especially when she has not had enough exercise or outdoor time. Without enough activity and space to run and play, she can become frustrated and reactive on walks, barking and lunging at other dogs. Because of this, we believe Cleo would do best in a home with a yard, an active lifestyle, and ideally someone who is home more often. She would thrive in an environment where she has room to move, regular exercise, and companionship throughout the day.
Cleo is potty trained, knows basic commands like “sit,” loves a good run, and is eager to please. She is a deeply loving dog who has come a very long way and simply needs the right home to continue flourishing. For someone willing to give her patience, structure, and love, Cleo will be an incredibly loyal and devoted companion.”
If you are interested in meeting this dog, please fill out our online application first. Contact us via email at info@coastalK9gsr.org. The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
