COASTAL K9 GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE
of SAN DIEGO

Most puppies are born in a home with their mom. They play and learn from their litter mates and their mom. They find wonderful homes, and they live wonderful lives. Sometimes it doesn't work out that way. Finley's story is of a puppy interrupted. Please read his story before you move on to understand just how special he is:

Now that you've read his story, we want to let you know who he is today. Finley was a puppy interrupted, interrupted for quite a while, but he didn't miss a beat. He has had surgery now and gone through the healing process and rehabilitation. We weren't sure how he would behave when he came out of the crate for the first time after 60 days of strict crate rest because of surgery. Well, he came out like a freight train, and he hasn't stopped yet. Finley is now ready for his forever home, but we want to make sure he gets the right home.

• Energy - Finley has endless energy. (Read his DNA and you will understand why)

• Other Dogs -- Finley loves loves loves other dogs. He does believe every dog loves him as he loves them. So, we are careful that he only interacts with friendly dogs. His forever home needs to have another energetic dog that he can burn energy with.

• People - Finley loves people. He can be a bit cautious in new situations until he is introduced properly as long as the person doesn't try to force themself upon him.

• Children - Finley would like to be the child in the home. He has never been around young children. No young children please.

• Intelligence - Absolutely very intelligent, extremely trainable (you, that is). He will train you in just a few weeks how he would like things to run if you let him.

• Crate trained -- yes, but when he is old enough not to get into things that can hurt him, we are sure he will be okay without a crate when you are home.

• Alone time -- Finley does not like to be alone. He does need to learn that it is okay to be alone, but his forever family would be an active family that works from home or has one person who stays at home most of the time, one with energy to exercise him during the day when he's not burning the energy off with his doggie friend.

• Potty Trained -- Finley is getting there, but he has been focusing on healing and will need a refresher course in where to go potty when he goes to his forever home.

• Chewing on things not supposed to - yes, if not supervised.

• Grabbing things from tabletops - yes, if not supervised.

• Chewing on things that it are okay for him to chew on - When he is given toys and things to chew on that are Finley approved, he does great focusing on them. No stuffed toys, though, his focus is on the stuffing inside.

• Training - Finley knows sit. He chooses when to listen. Finley knows down. He chooses when to listen. Finley knows wait. For this one he does listen. Finley knows come. He will listen unless there is something better going on around him. Like we said, he has been focusing on healing. And he is part Husky, so, Finley chooses when to listen.

When we accept who Finley is and are able to see him for that puppy, we see what makes him happy. He is so happy and proud of himself when you tell him to look and heal. He looks into your eyes, and it's forward march. When you ask him to wait while you put his training collar on, he watches your face patiently. When you do leash work, he has his prancing gate that shows how happy he is that he is pleasing you. He looks proudly at you when he sits. And when you take his training collar off and let him know it's okay to play, he is running with abandon, something that four months ago, we didn't know if he would ever be able to do.

Finley is looking for his forever home. This little puppy interrupted is ready to live the rest of his life with joy and love.
