Meet Onyx 🖤

5-Year-Old Black & Tan German Shepherd | Neutered | Up-to-Date on Vaccines

Onyx is a stunning, loyal black and tan German Shepherd looking for a new beginning. His owner, an active-duty service member of 11 years, has had him since he was just 4 months old and is making the incredibly difficult decision to find him a home that can give him the time and environment he deserves.

Onyx is deeply devoted to his people and has been raised around children, doing very well with them. He is affectionate, intelligent, and eager to work. In fact, professional trainers who have worked with him have described him as a **"trainer's dream dog."** He enjoys having a job and thrives when he has structure, purpose, and clear leadership.

As a puppy, Onyx was attacked by another dog, and as a result he developed some reactivity around unfamiliar dogs. Because of this, he would do best in a home with an experienced handler who understands working breeds and can continue to build his confidence. He is leash trained and does very well with guidance, though his off-leash experience is limited.

Onyx would be an incredible companion for someone looking for an active partner to train, hike, work, or participate in dog sports. Trainers have even suggested he has the drive and temperament to enjoy activities such as bite work or other working-dog outlets.
