Stanley is the definition of a gentle giant. A big boy with a sweet soul and a heart that seems to have room for everyone. He’s the kind of dog who wants to be close to his people, quietly keeping watch over the house from his favorite hallway lookout spot or simply following along to whatever room you happen to be in.
Stanley is still rebuilding after a difficult start. When we rescued him, he was very thin and underweight. Together with his foster family, we’ve been helping Stanley regain healthy weight, rebuild his strength, and simply learn what it feels like to relax and be cared for. Even while recovering, Stanley has shown us just how adaptable, resilient, and athletic he is, and we can’t wait to see him continue to thrive as he reaches full health.
His foster describes him best as a lover, not a fighter.
Stanley is incredibly friendly and social once he gets the chance to say hello. He approaches life with curiosity and confidence and isn’t easily bothered by loud noises or unexpected commotion. Thunder? Vacuums? No problem. He settles in remarkably well and adapts easily to his environment.
At home, Stanley is completely housebroken with zero accidents. He’s equal parts independent and affectionate. He is happy to entertain himself by pouncing on toys and tossing them into the air for solo games of catch, but also perfectly content curling up nearby (or quietly sneaking into bed in the middle of the night if given the opportunity).
Stanley already knows sit, shake, and down and listens well to “no.” He is very food motivated, which makes training rewarding and fun, and he shows absolutely no food aggression.
Stanley enjoys other dogs, but because of his size and strength, his play style can sometimes be enthusiastic and unintentionally rough. He may do best with dogs who can match his energy rather than very small or senior companions.
His ideal home? Stanley is adaptable enough to thrive in many environments, whether that’s an active family ready for adventures or a quieter household where he can relax and be close to his people. He would absolutely love a backyard to enjoy.
Stanley hasn’t spent long stretches alone in foster care yet and can show some attachment to his primary person, so a family willing to help him build confidence and settle into a routine would set him up for success.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a huge heart, a goofy side, and just enough athleticism to keep life interesting, Stanley may be your guy.
If you are interested in meeting this dog, please fill out our online application first. Contact us via email at info@coastalK9gsr.org. The minimum adoption donation ranges from $350 to $500. This amount only partially covers the cost of veterinary care, boarding fees, and other miscellaneous expenses involved in the temporary care and adoption of our dogs and is tax deductible. Prior to placement, all dogs will be spayed or neutered, receive current vaccinations, and are usually microchipped. If not, arrangements will be made on an individual basis. Special consideration may be given to those willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems.
